“The truest art is a lie that tells us the truth”
Ernest Hemingway.
Rina Salamanca is a multifaceted artist, her paintings, drawings, illustrations and engravings are part of her expression. Reality is seen from the exposure of dreamlike places where “fantasy” is opposed to logic. His surrealism does not arise from the subconscious. It is a product of the imagination, everything corresponds to a narrative that builds its own story. Her paintings take her characters on a unique journey, full of symbolism towards an idealized world, a way of expressing problems where pain gives way to hope, because to build a destiny one must first imagine it.
Born in 1972 in Chinandega, Nicaragua. Salamanca has been motivated by art since her childhood, her beginnings are as self-taught, it is until after graduating in law that she decides to go deeper into this fascinating world, she studied at the Centro Cultural Managua, and in workshops of renowned artists. His work captures both the customs and the effects that produce a Latin America plagued by systemic vices that hinder the political and economic development of its people, his work shows this erratic effect that is shaping his style towards a surrealistic expression.
His decision to emigrate to the United States in 2024 marks the beginning of a new era, a new field with different nuances and culture to explore from his own experience and vision.
Jorge Eduardo Arguello (Nicaraguan writer and poet) “His painting has its own visual and colorful field that makes the viewer feel in another dimension. It is a dreamlike painting with exact distortions, logical composition and solid features in the geometry through which she shows her talent. It is not only magic but dimensions, she makes you feel that her paintings are a poetry to life, in this hostile world”.
Guillermo Goussen Padilla: (Nicaraguan writer) “The first thing that comes to my mind when I see Rina Salamanca’s work is that it is in total agreement with what I have always thought of my country: a place of passage in which the continuous migrations and their cultural expressions were leaving their mark as the sun usually fixes the colors in a nature that wakes up under the perennial spring of the tropic. His plastic work is a kind of synecdoche of what our country has had to live through due to its geographical, historical and cultural position.
What attracts me the most in her pen is that I see a first-class draftswoman, whose stroke does not hesitate to delve into her ancestral, literary and mythical world”.
“My spaces are fragile: time will wear them down, will destroy them: nothing will resemble what it was, my memories will betray me, oblivion will infiltrate my memory, I will look at some yellowed photos with torn edges without being able to recognize them” George Perec.
